NATION AND NATIONALISM: THEORETICAL PROBLEM AND HISTORIOGRAPHIC CONCLUSIONS

Two main directions of investigation of the history of nations and nationalism: primordialistic and modernistic are examined. The author follows primordialistic direction, and advances a thesis that nationalism, as a native feature of nation, comes into existence at the same time with nation itself. According to this it raises a demand to separate the history of nationalism from the history of nationalistic idea (which is formed in the shape of ideology), and from the history of organized nationalistic movement in its different manifestations.
